Your new battery keeps dying

If a battery you bought recently keeps going flat, the odds are strongly against it being the battery. Our own measured failure rate across 5 400 units is 0.26%.

A parasitic draw

Something is running with the ignition off. Trackers, alarms, aftermarket radios, dash cameras and boot or glovebox lights that never switch off are the usual culprits, especially where the wiring was added later.

The charging system

If the alternator is under-charging, a new battery is discharged slightly further every trip until it will not start the car. This is the single most common reason a new battery appears to fail.

The wrong battery for the car

A stop-start vehicle given an ordinary flooded battery will cycle it far beyond what it was built for. It will fail early and it will not be a defect.

Short trips

Ten minutes at a time, every day, never fully replaces what starting took out. Over weeks the battery drifts down. A longer run or a proper charger fixes it.
