The NOVAX® warranty
Full replacement for the whole period. No pro-rata credit, no sliding scale. Here is exactly what that covers, and what it does not.
| Range | Period | Basis | Claim priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| NOVAX® Value Plus | 12 months | Full replacement throughout | Standard |
| NOVAX® Essential | 18 months | Full replacement throughout | Ahead of Value |
| NOVAX® Premium | 26 months | Full replacement throughout | Highest — same-day where stock is held |
This warranty is something we give you in addition to the rights the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 already gives you. It does not replace them, reduce them or take them away.
In particular, for six months after a battery is delivered to you, section 56 of the Act lets you return it if it is not of good quality, is not free of defects, or is not reasonably fit for its normal purpose — and you choose whether you want a refund, a replacement or a repair. That right does not depend on this warranty, on registering anything, or on where you bought the battery.
Nothing on this page limits our liability under section 61 of the Act for harm caused by unsafe or defective goods.
Covered
What the warranty covers
A NOVAX® battery that, inside its warranty period, fails a warranty test at an authorised NOVAX® outlet because of a defect in its materials or manufacture.
- A cell or internal connection that has failed
- An internal short or open circuit
- Loss of capacity that the battery cannot recover after a correct recharge, where the vehicle's charging system tests within specification
- A manufacturing fault in the case, lid, terminals or vent system that was not caused by impact, over-tightening or heat from outside the battery
If the battery fails that test, it is replaced — not credited on a sliding scale. Fitment of the replacement is free at any authorised outlet.
Not covered
What the warranty does not cover
Each exclusion below applies to damage or failure actually caused by that thing. We do not treat the whole warranty as void because one of them happened.
- Physical damage — impact, dropping, a cracked case, fire, flood or theft
- Reverse polarity, a short across the terminals, or terminal damage from over-tightening, hammering or the wrong clamp
- A battery discharged flat by lights, accessories, an alarm, a tracker or a vehicle standing unused, and then damaged by being left flat
- Over-charging or under-charging by the vehicle — a faulty alternator, regulator, earth or parasitic drain. Have this tested; we do it free
- The wrong battery for the vehicle, including a flooded battery fitted where the manufacturer specifies AGM
- Use in an application the battery is not made for — deep-cycle, inverter, solar, standby, marine or traction duty
- Charging or attempted repair by anyone other than an authorised outlet, and any opening, tampering, or removal of the case, vents, labels or date coding
- Addition of any liquid, additive or so-called battery treatment
- Normal loss of performance with age and use, where the battery still passes a warranty test
- Loss you suffer indirectly — towing, car hire, lost income, missed appointments — except where the law does not allow us to exclude it
Claiming
How a claim works
-
Take the battery and your invoice to any authorised outlet
Any outlet on our dealer page — not only the one that sold it to you. Bring the original invoice, or your registration reference.
-
We test the battery and your charging system
Free of charge. The test covers open-circuit voltage, a conductance test and, where needed, a load test. We test the vehicle's charging system too, because a battery that keeps failing is often a symptom rather than the fault.
-
If it is flat but sound, we charge it and test again
A discharged battery is not the same as a defective one. If it recovers on a correct recharge and then passes, we return it to you working, at no charge. This step is normal and is not a way of delaying your claim.
-
If it fails, we replace it
Same size and range where we hold it, or the closest equivalent we agree with you. Fitted free. Where the outlet holds stock, Premium claims are handled the same day.
-
Your replacement carries the balance of the original period
A replacement continues the original warranty for the time that was left on it. It does not start a new 12, 18 or 26 months. Keep your original invoice — it is still the document that proves the period.
Version 1.0 — effective 21 August 2026. Applies to NOVAX® batteries purchased on or after that date.
Warranty terms in full
- Who gives this warranty. This warranty is given by Global Batteries Xpress (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/573894/07), the owner of the NOVAX® trade mark (“we”, “us”). It is honoured at any authorised NOVAX® outlet.
- Who it covers. The person named on the original invoice, and anyone to whom that person transfers the battery together with the invoice, for the remainder of the period. The warranty follows the battery, not the vehicle.
- What you are covered for and for how long. NOVAX® Value Plus: 12 months. NOVAX® Essential: 18 months. NOVAX® Premium (including Premium AGM): 26 months. The period runs from the date of purchase shown on your invoice. Cover is full replacement for the entire period. There is no pro-rata reduction, depreciation table or partial credit at any point.
- Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act are not affected. This warranty is given in addition to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, including your rights under sections 55 and 56 to goods that are of good quality, free of defects and reasonably suitable for their purpose, and your right within six months of delivery to return goods that fail those standards and to choose a refund, replacement or repair. Nothing in this warranty waives, limits or attempts to contract out of any right you have under that Act, and any part of this warranty that would have that effect does not apply. Our liability under section 61 for harm caused by unsafe or defective goods is not excluded or limited.
- Registration is optional. You may register your battery at novaxbattery.co.za. Registration is a convenience — it means we already hold your details when you claim. It is not a condition of this warranty, and failing to register does not affect your cover. Your invoice is what proves your claim.
- Where the warranty applies. Inside the Republic of South Africa, at any authorised NOVAX® outlet.
- Batteries not bought from an authorised outlet. This warranty attaches to a sale by us or by an outlet we have appointed in writing. If a NOVAX®-labelled battery was sold to you by anyone else, this warranty does not attach to that sale — your claim lies against the person who sold it to you, who remains subject to the Consumer Protection Act. Contact us and we will confirm whether a seller is authorised.
- What is covered. A defect in the materials or manufacture of the battery which causes it to fail a warranty test at an authorised outlet inside its period, as described under “What the warranty covers” above.
- What is not covered. The matters listed under “What the warranty does not cover” above. Each of those applies only to failure or damage actually caused by that matter. The occurrence of one of them does not cancel your cover for an unrelated defect.
- Commercial, fleet and passenger-for-reward use. Where a battery is used in a vehicle operated for reward — metered taxi, minibus taxi, e-hailing, shuttle, courier, delivery or similar — the duty cycle is materially heavier than the private use these periods are set for. In those applications the warranty period is six months for all three ranges, unless a longer commercial period is agreed in writing before the sale. This must be pointed out to you at the counter before you buy. If it was not, the standard period for the range applies.
- AGM. AGM batteries are supplied in the Premium range and carry the same 26-month cover. An AGM battery fitted to a vehicle that does not require one, or a non-AGM battery fitted where the manufacturer specifies AGM, is an incorrect application and any failure caused by it is not covered.
- How to claim. Return the battery, with your original invoice or registration reference, to any authorised NOVAX® outlet. Do not dismantle, open or attempt to repair it. Follow the steps under “How a claim works” above.
- Testing. We test open-circuit voltage and conductance, and where appropriate apply a load test, and we test the vehicle's charging system. A battery found discharged but otherwise sound will be recharged and retested at our cost and returned to you. This is not a rejection of your claim.
- What we will do. If the battery fails the warranty test because of a defect, we will replace it with the same size and range, or with an equivalent agreed with you, and fit it free of charge. We do not offer a cash refund under this warranty — your right to choose a refund arises under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act within six months of delivery, and that right is unaffected.
- Replacements continue the original period. A replacement battery carries the unexpired balance of the original warranty period. It does not begin a new period. Keep your original invoice.
- Turnaround. Where the outlet holds your size, we aim to settle the same day. Where it does not, we aim to settle within seven business days, and the outlet must tell you in writing if it will take longer.
- Costs we do not carry. Removal or refitting by anyone other than an authorised outlet, towing, recovery, call-out, car hire, and any indirect or consequential loss — except to the extent that the law does not permit us to exclude it. We do not exclude liability for our own gross negligence, or for death or personal injury.
- Old batteries. A battery replaced under this warranty becomes our property and is sent for recycling.
- If you are not satisfied. Raise it with the outlet first, then with us at warranty@novaxbattery.co.za. If we cannot resolve it, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission, to a consumer court, or to an accredited consumer goods ombud. Nothing here requires you to give up that right or to go to arbitration instead.
- Law. This warranty is governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
Getting the longest life out of any battery
None of this is a warranty condition. It is simply what makes batteries last.
- Have the charging system tested when you replace a battery. A battery that failed early is often the victim, not the culprit.
- Short trips do not recharge a battery. If the vehicle only does school runs, take it for a longer run occasionally, or use a proper maintenance charger.
- Keep terminals clean and tight. A loose terminal cooks a battery.
- If the vehicle will stand for more than three weeks, disconnect it or put it on a maintenance charger.
- Fit the size and type the manufacturer specifies. Under-sizing a battery to save money shortens its life and is not covered.
